On May 16–17, the 5th International Scientific Conference in the series “EDUCATION IN THE FAMILY – FAMILY IN EDUCATION” took place.
The event was held in partnership with the City of Kraków, whose support enabled us to organize such a memorable gathering.
Co-organizers of the conference included our long-standing academic collaborators from the University of Debrecen (Hungary) and the University of Zadar (Croatia), with whom we have been working for years to shape the discourse surrounding education in the family and the role of the family in education.
The conference was officially opened by the Rector of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, Rev. Prof. Robert Tyrała, Th.D., Dr. habil., who emphasized the crucial role of education in the life of the family and society at large.
Following this, Mr. Paweł Włodarczyk, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Croatia, addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in the development of academic and didactic potential.
Subsequent welcoming remarks were delivered by representatives of the organizing institutions:
- Rev. Assoc. Prof. Grzegorz Godawa, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków;
- Prof. Erzsébet Gortka-Rákó, Dean of the Faculty of Child and Special Educational Needs at the University of Debrecen;
- Rev. Prof. Arkadiusz Krasicki from the University of Zadar.
The official opening was followed by a keynote lecture by Prof. Magdalena Hodalska of the Jagiellonian University and Rev. Dr. Łukasz Buksa of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, titled: “Phubbing in the Family: Exploring the Smartphone Distraction Among Young Adults in China and Poland.”
To introduce the guests to the cultural heritage of Kraków, the organizers arranged a unique performance by the “Lajkonik” folk group, which presented Kraków’s traditional folklore through music, dance, and song.
In this cheerful and engaged atmosphere, participants enthusiastically joined the second part of the conference, which included three thematic sessions:
- Education in the Family (combined with Social Aspects of Education),
- Family in the Educational System,
- and the inaugural Student Section for students and doctoral candidates.
In the afternoon, during the informal part of the program, attendees had the opportunity to explore the city of Kraków. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the city captivated everyone—especially our guests from Hungary, Croatia, and Warsaw.
The second day of the conference continued with discussions on special education, project initiatives for supporting teachers working with individuals on the autism spectrum, and a project aimed at enhancing the education of specialists working with refugees from Ukraine.
Later in the day, the student and doctoral session resumed, offering young scholars a valuable platform to present their research and analytical work.
The “Education in the Family – Family in Education” Conference also served as an excellent opportunity to promote Kraków not only as a tourist destination but also as a center of scientific research and academic exchange. We extend our sincere thanks to the City of Kraków for serving as an official partner of the Conference.

We are pleased to invite you to attend the conference dedicated to family and education. Despite numerous crises which have affected the family, it remains the basic educational environment. As a social group, the family is also an integral part of the national educational system which has been undergoing dynamic changes. This dependence highlights considerable educational potential which may provide opportunities for development to children, teenagers, adults and the oldest family members. We are aware of the deficiencies and obstacles in the educational process in the family. We recognise significant needs in the social dimension of education. Therefore, it is crucially important to organise academic meetings and foster discussions on these important issues.
